National Council of Women help
Community Transport in Shepparton.
The Goulburn Valley Branch of the National Council of Women in 2009 wanted to help the Community Transport Program become more sustainable and meet the growing demand in the Shepparton area for transport for people who are frail aged or disadvantaged in some way. They have approached and written letters to both State and Local Government seeking ongoing funding for the program.
As a result of their efforts in 2010 the group secured funding for a new car for the program. Taking possession of a Ford Mondeo Diesel Station Wagon in July the Shepparton branch of the Community Accessabilty Program are very grateful to both City of Greater Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley Branch of the National Council of Women for their support.
The vehicle is now working hard transporting the frail/aged people and people with disabilities in the City of Greater Shepparton to medical and therapy appointments in Shepparton and to Melbourne on a regular basis. The program exists due to the time volunteers contribute as drivers for the program. This contribution has enabled the program to continue its service and Elaine Hill a Manager for the program said " we are very grateful for the support from City of Greater Shepparton and National Council of Women in the Goulburn Valley."
